Drama will enable students to think carefully about how theatre productions are created and performed in different styles and genres. Students will gain the ability to use acting skills and techniques to create a range of characters. As students move through the years of school, they will grow in confidence gaining both performance and presentation skills. Students will have the ability to perform in shows, know how to audition and have an understanding of the roles that make up a theatre company.
The skills you gain while studying Drama are valued by all types of employers, for example:

Year 7

Introduction to Drama |
Students will learn about basic Drama skills and techniques and learn how to apply them. They will use teamwork and leadership skills. |

Pantomime and Fairy-tales |
Using Pantomime conventions and acting skills and techniques learnt throughout the year, students will create their very own pantomime and perform them on the main school stage. |

The White Lady |
Students will apply the skills learnt from Year 8 and enhance them into a part scripted/part devised topic. This will encourage communication and creative thinking. |

Students will learn to interpret a script and create a performance by learning lines, creating character profiles, making decisions on set/props and costume design. |

Writing for Performance |
Leading on from the last topic, students will learn how to write their own script and perform it. Students will use creative writing/script writing and performance skills. Students will also consider and use technical elements of Drama. |

Devising from a stimulus |
Linking to the GCSE specification, students will learn to use a variety of stimuli to enhance their creativity. The students will gain the ability to ‘think outside the box’ learning how to create performance from their own ideas and applying Drama techniques and skills. |

Homework and support
Homework will be set via E-Praise and will comprise of a written booklet that students will be requested to fill in after each lesson. Homework can include revising for spelling tests of frequently used Drama words or a research task depending on the topic. In addition extra lunch time rehearsals made be required before end of topic assessed performances.
Glee Club
This Drama club is open to year groups 7, 8 and 9 and is available on a Thursday 3-4 in the Drama studio. Students can choose to either perform/sing/Play an instrument/dance or participate in all disciplines. It is a relaxed club where students create their own shows from their combined ideas. The end devised piece will be performed to Year 7 and Year 8 on the main school stage under stage lighting. Glee is a fantastic club for those students who lack confidence/communication skills and want to make new friends but also for those who love to perform.
Students will study AQA GCSE Drama.
In year 9 students will have a foundation year in which they will develop their performance techniques and skills, learn about a variety of practitioners and their theories and analysis and interpret texts.
Year 10/11

This component is to deliver content practically/written to inform a written examination which will take place in the summer term of Year 11. |

· Process of creating devised Drama in a devising log · Performance of devised Drama · Analysis and evaluation of own work
This component is a combination of practical and written work. The devised performance will be assessed in front of an audience. |

Component 3: Texts in practice.

· Performance of two extracts from one play · Free choice of play but it must contrast with the set play chosen for Component 1 · Reflective report
This component is a combination of practical and written work. The extracts will be assessed in front of an audience and visiting examiner. |

Students will study AQA GCSE Drama.
On the course
Students will undertake all non-exam assessment in the certification year and sit the written exam at the end of the course.
Practical focus
Learning is through experience, seeing theatre and making theatre. Exploring plays practically, devising using a wide range of theatrical styles and contexts.
Engaging exams
The exam side of the course is designed for students to demonstrate their creativity and imagination in interpreting set texts and to apply independent thinking and evaluate a live theatre production.
